15 Times: LGBT Acceptance

In the last year, 55% of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) people reported being discriminated against due to their sexual orientation or gender identity, an increase from 44% in the previous year. While most Americans support equal treatment for LGBT people, 80% of the public falsely believes it’s illegal to fire, evict or refuse service to someone because they’re LGBT.

The Ad Council, in partnership with CP + B, Redscout and The Gill Foundation put together the LGBT Acceptance campaign, aiming to raise awareness about discrimination against LGBT Americans. In turn promoting acceptance, empathy and understanding for the millions of LGBT Americans who can be kicked out of their homes, fired from their jobs or denied services just because of their sexual orientation or gender identity.

By highlighting facts about discrimination and showcasing real stories of everyday Americans who experience housing, employment and service discrimination because they’re LGBT, the campaign demonstrates that inequality and discrimination still exists – and confronts the common misperception that LGBT Americans received full equality with marriage equality.

Campaign assets drive to BeyondIDo.org, which provides users with resources to learn more about the issue of discrimination against LGBT people.
