Anything for baby! The 2018 Gerber Spokesbaby has been announced, and the winning photo from the eighth annual photo search is Lucas Warren. Originally from Dalton, Georgia, Lucas is the first child with Down syndrome to be named a Gerber Spokesbaby.
With more than 140,000 entries submitted, Lucas’ winning photo won over judges with his giggly grin and joyful expression. Bill Partyka, President and CEO at Gerber, was thrilled to name Lucas as the 2018 Spokesbaby. “Every year, we choose the baby who best exemplifies Gerber’s longstanding heritage of recognizing that every baby is a Gerber baby, and this year, Lucas is the perfect fit.”
Lucas’ parents, Cortney and Jason, are just as excited about his big win and how much representation means for the special needs community. “This is such a proud moment for us as parents knowing that Lucas has a platform to spread joy, not only to those he interacts with every day, but to people all over the country,” said Lucas’ mom, Cortney Warren. “We hope this opportunity sheds light on the special needs community and educates people that with acceptance and support, individuals with special needs have the potential to change the world – just like our Lucas!”
The original face of the iconic Gerber baby logo, Ann Turner Cook, also expressed her excitement over Lucas’ big win. “Let me offer my warmest congratulations to Lucas, our newest Gerber Spokesbaby, and to his parents. I know you will take great pride in representing Gerber this year, as I have for the past 90 years. There is no greater privilege than to be a universal symbol for babies all over the world. I am delighted to take part in this celebration. Lucas is precious, and I look forward to watching him grow this year!”
As the grand prize winner, Lucas’s parents will receive a $50,000 prize and Lucas will be given the title of the 2018 Spokesbaby. Watch out for him on Gerber’s social media channels and other Gerber advertisements to come all throughout the year!
